The first food culture conference

The Applied Culture Portal, in collaboration with the Directorate of Culture of Zarqa and under the patronage of the International Chefs Brotherhood, organized the Food Culture Conference on Saturday at the King Abdullah II Cultural Center in Zarqa. The conference, titled "Enhancing Identity Through Food," brought together experts and enthusiasts to discuss various aspects of food culture and its impact.

During the opening of the conference, MP Walid Al-Masri highlighted the importance of raising awareness about food culture and national food security. He urged young people to invest in the agricultural sector, describing it as a promising field that can reduce poverty and unemployment rates while enhancing national food self-sufficiency.

MP Engineer Naseem Al-Abadi regarded the conference as a significant step toward raising awareness about food security in a turbulent world affected by conflicts and crises.

Dr. Bahaa Mousa, the conference chair and a representative from the American Applied University, emphasized that food culture is not merely a reflection of the past but also a bridge to the future. He stated that it plays a vital role in reinforcing national identity and preserving authentic values and traditions.

Dr. Mousa also underscored the importance of sustainable development projects, particularly agriculture, as a strategic defense line against global transformations. He announced plans to launch a cooking competition that will include the participation of individuals with disabilities.

The conference featured enriching discussion sessions focusing on key topics, including health and nutrition. Experts discussed the benefits and challenges of gluten-free diets, white bean allergies, and the influence of food on genes.

In the "Cultural Identity Through Food" segment, the discussions highlighted Jordanian food identity and the role of Arab cuisine in promoting authentic Arab identity. Other topics included food safety, the harm caused by preservatives, and chemical interventions in food production.

On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition showcased a variety of food products, including sweets and beverages inspired by Jordan's rich heritage. The event celebrated the values and traditions of Jordanian society, making the conference an opportunity to deepen discussions on food security while emphasizing its role in preserving Jordanian cultural identity and fostering closer ties between peoples and cultures.
